The first wine produced at Château Sigognac comes from its 50 hectares of vineyards, located on gently sloping hillsides facing east/west. The grape varieties Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot thrive in this terroir, expressing their full richness and roundness. The viticulture practiced is sustainable, with experiments in organic farming on 5 hectares for the past two years, and mechanical weeding applied across the entire property.

It pairs perfectly with charcuterie and grilled red meat.

The Estate and the Vineyard

Château SIGOGNAC is located in Saint Yzans de Médoc, on the ruins of a Roman "Villa Ausone".

Harvesting at Château Sigognac is carefully carried out at full grape maturity, following a meticulous tasting of the berries. The process begins with complete destemming followed by crushing, and vinification takes place in temperature-controlled wooden, concrete, and stainless steel vats, done on a plot-by-plot basis. Each plot and grape variety is vinified separately in dedicated vats.

The maceration lasts for about three weeks, allowing for optimal extraction of the terroir characteristics. The press wines, sorted into three qualitative categories, are selected in barrels. This precise and careful approach facilitates the blending of the vintage.

The aging process continues in exclusively French oak barrels, ranging from 1 to 2 wines, for a duration of 12 to 15 months. This contributes to refining and developing the complexity of the wines, adding subtle nuances and an elegant structure to each cuvée.
