Riesling Via Saint Jacques Magnum – Alsace AOP – Schieferkopf

Riesling Via Saint Jacques Magnum – Alsace AOP – Schieferkopf

€39.50

The Riesling Via Saint Jacques from Domaine Schieferkopf is an emblematic wine that expresses with great purity the full nobility of Alsace’s terroirs. Presented in a magnum format, it gains finesse and ageing potential thanks to a slower and more harmonious evolution.

It displays a pale yellow colour with silvery highlights, bright and crystalline, typical of Alsace Riesling. Thanks to its acidity and minerality, this magnum can age for 10 to 15 years, developing increased aromatic complexity (honeyed notes, candied fruit).

The magnum format makes it perfect for festive meals and large gatherings.

The Estate and the Vineyard

The Schieferkopf Estate is a distinctive wine estate, founded with the ambition of revealing rare and demanding terroirs located on the border between Alsace and Germany. Its name, Schieferkopf (“slate head” in German), immediately evokes the unique feature that defines its identity: blue-schist soils, which are highly unusual for the region.

The estate spreads across steep hillsides facing south and southeast, where the vines sink their roots into Precambrian blue schists, among the oldest geological formations in Europe. This poor, well-drained, mineral soil gives birth to wines that are:

– straight and finely chiseled,

– driven by high, vibrant acidity,

– marked by a mouthwatering minerality,

– and endowed with great aromatic purity.

Schieferkopf practices rigorous, largely manual viticulture, respectful of living ecosystems. Yields are naturally low due to the nature of the terroir, enhancing the concentration and typicity of the wines. Winemaking focuses on freshness, fruit transparency, and the fullest expression of the soil’s mineral character.

Although Riesling is the flagship grape of the estate—renowned for its vertical, tense expression—Schieferkopf also cultivates other varieties suited to the schist slopes, always with the same pursuit of purity and finesse.

The wines of Domaine Schieferkopf are distinguished by:

– their sharp, striking minerality,

– their aromatic precision,

– excellent ageing potential,

– aromas of citrus, wet stone, white flowers and, with time, subtle smoky or petrol notes.

Located at the crossroads of two winemaking cultures, Schieferkopf embodies a meeting between Alsatian tradition and Germanic precision, resulting in wines with a unique style within the Alsace landscape.
