The Estate and The Vineyard

The Brotte Family is the story of five generations of winemakers from Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The house was founded in 1931 and is dedicated to the great terroirs of the Rhône Valley, including crus, villages, and Côtes du Rhône.

The family estates span Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Cairanne, and Laudun, covering a total area of 90 hectares.

Today, three generations are at the helm of this family empire, dedicating their expertise to creating elegant wines through sustainable soil management, with rigorous winter pruning, green harvesting, and leaf removal to limit yields and prioritize quality over quantity.

The vineyard of Château de Bord Laudun was originally owned by the Bishops of Uzès in the 10th century, and later by the Count of Toulouse. The Château was then purchased in 1991 by the Brotte Family.

Overlooking vineyards with an average age of 40 years, the estate spans 22 hectares, located on a hillside with a series of terraces facing south (well-drained clay-limestone soils at the location called "Camp de César"). These terraces are particularly notable for containing fossils of oysters and marine shells.

The vines are cultivated using sustainable practices, certified Terra Vitis and High Environmental Value. The vines are de-budded and de-leafed to limit yields and enhance quality.

Harvesting is done by hand to ensure the grapes are quickly transported in small containers, preventing the crushing and oxidation of the fruit.

Regarding aging, the Syrah and Viognier grape varieties are aged in French oak barrels, while the Grenache is aged in concrete tanks and century-old oak vats to preserve its fruitiness. Bottling takes place in March, after over a year of aging.
