The Estate and the Vineyard
In 1945, René Brice took over the family estate, modernized it, and completed replantations following the phylloxera crisis. He expanded the family cellars and launched the first Champagne Brice cuvées, marking the tenth generation of the family.
In 1966, Jean-Paul Brice returned to the estate and developed the vineyards in the Aube department. In 1994, he injected new dynamism into the family by becoming a wine merchant and joining the Union des Maisons de Champagne. Since then, external grape supplies have complemented the family vineyards, allowing for increased production and marking the eleventh generation.
The Bouzy vineyard, classified as Grand Cru, has been owned by the Brice family since the late 17th century. The estate actively promotes biodiversity, cultivating vines without chemical pesticides or insecticides, and has been certified organic since the 2023 harvest.
The soils are tilled with a plow, and the vineyards primarily feature grape varieties from familial mass selections. The average age of the vines is 45 years, ensuring the quality and authenticity of the terroir.
To supplement their own grape production, the Brice family has fostered strong relationships with grape suppliers for 30 years. This includes sourcing from five hectares of premier crus, comprising two hectares of Chardonnay in Grauves and three hectares in Hautvillers, which have been undergoing organic conversion since 2023. These five hectares are fully managed by the Maison's viticultural team.
To ensure the best quality grapes during harvest, the family hosts a team of housed and fed harvesters. This meticulous approach allows for careful grape sorting and optimal harvesting times, respecting and attending to the vines' needs.
During harvest, grapes are collected by specific plots to select the best juices and accurately map the Bouzy terroir.
