The Estate and the Vineyard
The champagne house Bollinger is located in Aÿ in France. Founded in 1829 by Athanase de Villermont, the house is known for producing high-quality champagnes, often described as powerful and elegant.
Bollinger is also famous for being the favorite champagne of James Bond, the famous MI6 secret agent in Ian Fleming’s novels. Since the movie "Living and Letting Die" in 1973, Bollinger has become James Bond’s official champagne.
Bollinger has 164 hectares of vineyards, the majority of which are classified as Grand Cru and Premier Cru. It uses the three classic grape varieties of Champagne - Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier - to produce a range of champagnes, ranging from non-vintage brut to the prestigious "La Grande Année" vintage.
Bollinger is also known for its special method of vinification called "fermentation in oak barrels", which consists of fermenting part of the wine in oak barrels rather than stainless steel vats. This gives Bollinger champagnes an additional texture and complexity.
In short, the Bollinger champagne house is a prestigious and renowned champagne house, famous for its high quality champagnes and for being James Bond’s favorite champagne.
