Food pairing: It pairs perfectly with seafood (oysters, shrimp, whelks), grilled or tartare-style fish, as well as fish with lemon or herb-based sauces. Its freshness also makes it an excellent match for fresh goat cheeses such as Crottin de Chavignol, a classic pairing with Loire Sauvignon. It can further enhance fresh starters like mixed salads, asparagus, or crunchy vegetables, thanks to its tension and citrus notes.

Vintage: 2024

Taste: On the nose, it reveals aromas of lemon, grapefruit, and green apple, sometimes complemented by the typical vegetal notes of Sauvignon (boxwood, blackcurrant bud). On the palate, the attack is lively and precise, supported by a fine acidity. The wine is light, refreshing, and highly aromatic, with a fresh finish.

The Estate and the Vineyard

The Domaine Henri Poiron is a family-run estate located in the heart of the Nantes wine region, between the Sèvre and Maine rivers in the Loire Valley. Founded several generations ago, it is rooted in a long winemaking tradition dating back to the 18th century, with the family also working as vine nurserymen since the late 19th century. Today, the estate is managed by Éric Poiron, who continues to uphold this expertise across approximately 35 hectares of vineyards.

The estate mainly produces Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine sur Lie and Gros Plant du Pays Nantais, along with red, rosé, and a few white wines made from grape varieties such as Chardonnay and Sauvignon. The wines are crafted in a traditional style, with vinification in tanks—some of which are underground and date back to 1947—in order to preserve freshness and express the terroir.

The vineyards are planted on a variety of soils typical of the Nantes region, including schist, gneiss, and sandy-loam soils. These terroirs give rise to wines that are lively, mineral, and fresh, with a strong Loire identity.

The wines from the estate are generally characterized by great freshness, crisp and refreshing acidity, and aromas of citrus and white fruits. Muscadets often display a mineral and slightly saline edge. Some cuvées, aged for longer periods, can develop more roundness and complexity, with notes of honey, ripe fruit, and candied citrus.

In summary, Domaine Henri Poiron perfectly represents a traditional Muscadet estate, offering authentic, fresh, and approachable wines that faithfully reflect the terroir of the Nantes vineyard.
