The Château du Gazin (dating from the 16th and 18th centuries) is located on the renowned Right Bank of Bordeaux, alongside the prestigious appellations of Saint-Émilion and Pomerol. It sits in a beautiful valley overlooking the Dordogne River and has been owned by the Robert family since 1935.
The estate covers 30 hectares of vineyards, including 24 hectares in Canon-Fronsac and 6 hectares in Fronsac, with an average vine age of around 35 years. The vineyard is planted with 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Malbec, reflecting the classic Right Bank grape profile.
The quality of the terroir is defined by several key factors:
Clay-limestone soils over an asteriated limestone base, similar to those found in Saint-Émilion.
A south-east facing hillside exposure, ensuring optimal sunlight while reducing the impact of afternoon heat.
Natural water regulation provided by the slope and subsoil structure.
A moderating microclimate, influenced by the nearby Dordogne River.
This combination of history, terroir, and grape varieties contributes to wines that are typically rich, balanced, and expressive of the Right Bank style.
