Morgon from Château Monternot is an important Beaujolais cru, notable for being located entirely within a single commune.
The Morgon from Château Monternot – 2021 is a red AOP Morgon wine from the Beaujolais appellation, in the south of Burgundy. It is produced by Château de Monternot, a family-owned estate that has been working for generations with the Gamay grape.
This wine comes from the Corcelette cuvée, a vineyard plot (climat) planted on volcanic granite soils, which give Morgon wines their structure, finesse, and aging potential.
The 2021 vintage is already enjoyable young, but it can further develop and gain complexity if cellared for a few more years, up to around 2030.

Château de Monternot is a family-run winery that has been established for several generations in the heart of Beaujolais, in the commune of Charentay, near Mont Brouilly. Its history dates back to the 17th century and has developed gradually through successive generations of the La Poype family.
During the 1980s and 1990s, the estate underwent a major transformation: the various family properties, including Château de Monternot and Domaine de Chêne, were united following the marriage of their heirs. This merger allowed for an ambitious restructuring of the vineyard, an expansion of planted areas, and the launch of bottled wine production, rather than selling in bulk.
Today, the vineyard covers approximately 40 hectares, managed with passion, combining tradition and innovation. The next generation is now taking over, ensuring the continuity of the family’s winemaking expertise.
Château de Monternot cultivates several Beaujolais appellations, each with its own unique geological and climatic characteristics:
Brouilly (parcels such as Saint‑Pierre or Chapelle Saint‑Pierre) , – marly-calcareous and clay-granite soils producing fruity, round, and well-structured wines.
Morgon (Corcelette parcel), – decomposed granite soils of volcanic origin, producing powerful and profound wines.
Juliénas (Beauvernay), – very stony volcanic soils, giving wines with greater concentration and character.
Beaujolais‑Villages and Beaujolais Blanc, – made from Gamay for the reds and Chardonnay for the whites, these wines express freshness, fruitiness, or finesse depending on the terroir.
All cuvées are based on the emblematic Gamay grape of Beaujolais, except for the rare whites made from Chardonnay.
The estate produces a diverse range of wines, from light and fruity to more structured wines suitable for aging, always true to the typical style of Beaujolais.
It also offers a charming gîte, perfect for staying in the heart of the vineyard and fully experiencing the world of Beaujolais.
In summary, Château de Monternot is an authentic and iconic Beaujolais estate, combining family history, diverse terroirs, and modern winemaking expertise to produce wines that are expressive, elegant, and of exceptional quality.
