A whole history lies behind this Beaune Premier Cru Grèves “Vigne de l’Enfant Jésus.”
Marguerite du Saint-Sacrement, a Carmelite nun and founder of the Domestiques of the Family of the Holy Child Jesus, is said to have foretold the birth of the future King of France, Louis XIV, at a time when his mother, Anne of Austria, was believed to be sterile. Upon the birth of the future king, the exceptional vineyard owned by the Carmelites took the name “Vigne de l’Enfant Jésus.”
In 1791, Maison Bouchard Père & Fils became the owner of this 3.92-hectare parcel, located at the heart of the 32 hectares of the Beaune Grèves appellation. To this day, it retains exclusive ownership (a monopoly) of the vineyard.
True to their expertise, the grapes are harvested by hand, with very selective manual sorting. The wine is aged for 12 to 14 months in oak barrels, 30 to 40% of which are new.
For this 2022 vintage, one discovers a superb bouquet of fruit and spices, enhanced by an intense oak note. The winemaker likes to emphasize that it is “of enchanting velvet.”

Bouchard Père & Fils is both a wine-growing estate and a négociant house located in Burgundy. Over the years, and through successive generations of the Bouchard family, it has built an exceptional estate, now totaling 130 hectares of vineyards in the heart of the Côte d’Or (including 12 classified as Grand Cru and 74 as Premier Cru).
Founded in 1731, Maison Bouchard Père & Fils has assembled a truly remarkable heritage. Based at the Château de Beaune since 1820, its wines benefit from optimal ageing conditions thanks to underground cellars and galleries running beneath the entire property.
